Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet

Wacom Bamboo Tablet

Wacom Tablets are mouse replacements for graphic designers. The tablet is touch sensitive and used with the included pen/stylus. It simulate the pen & paper experience and increases precision. The tablet is also pressure sensitive to simulate painting or sketching. It does include a mouse.

Neither the pen or mouse needs batteries. The pen has a tip, much like a pencil’s, and an eraser head on the other end. In supported applications, like Adobe Photoshop, the eraser tip erases without having to change to the eraser tool, which is very convenient. The pen also includes two buttons that, by default, are set to scroll and act as right-click. The mouse is fairly standard, with a clickable, scroll-wheel.

What is the Bamboo Fun?

The Bamboo Fun is Wacom’s mainstream line of tablets. They are aimed at the casual user, both with pricing and presentation. The tablet includes 4 buttons: Back and Forward, and Function1 and Function2, which can be set to launch applications. It also includes a scroll circle that is activated by a touch of the finger: up and down are to scroll vertically and circular motions activates program-specific zooming. Great in concept but it is not very responsive. I also found it easier and more-convenient to use the scroll button on the pen.

Is it for you?

If you are at all interested in graphic design or digital art, I recommend it. After some practice, it is a lot more precise and makes sketching easier. If you are already comfortable with a mouse, I still recommend you try it. You’ll find going back to a mouse is like designing with a rock.

If you are not interested in design but find that mice are not comfortable, the pen is great. My wrists aren’t sore at all anymore and it is a lot more comfortable to use.

With the Bamboo Fun, the price is very tempting and, with a good return policy from the vendor, I highly recommend the Wacom Bamboo Fun Tablet.
